Why Asking For Help Is A Sign Of Strength.

One of the most prevalent misconceptions in our society today is that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Many falsely believe that getting assistance from others makes us look incompetent, incapable, and helpless. As a result, we often try to carry the weight of our problems on our own, refusing to reach out for the help we need. However, this attitude starkly contrasts the truth that the Bible teaches us about what it means to be strong.

In Proverbs 11:14, we are reminded that there is safety in the multitude of counselors. When faced with a difficult situation, asking for the advice of those more experienced can help us find a solution. The fact of the matter is we all have areas in which we lack expertise, which is why it is essential to lean on the knowledge and experience of others. When we seek the counsel of those with more insight into a particular area, we demonstrate wisdom and humility, not weakness.

Moreover, the Bible teaches us that God has designed us to be interdependent. In 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, we learn that each part of the body of Christ has a specific function and that we need each other to function effectively. Just as the members of the body work together to achieve a common goal, so too are we called to work together to achieve the purposes of God. We were never meant to navigate life's challenges on our own. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but rather a recognition of our need for the support and assistance of others.

When we ask for help, we also create opportunities for others to exercise their gifts of service and hospitality. In Romans 12:6-8, we are taught that God has given each of us unique gifts, and we are to use them to serve one another. When we refuse to ask for help, we rob others of the opportunity to exercise their gifts. When we ask for assistance, we provide an opportunity for others to use their service skills, which is a blessing to them and us.

The Greek word translated as "help" is boetheo, which means "to run to the aid of, to render assistance." This word conveys the idea of coming alongside someone in need, offering to help shoulder their burdens. There is no shame in receiving help, for it is often needed to help us push through our trials and challenges.

As we reflect on these truths, let us embrace the reality that asking for help is a sign of Strength, not weakness. By leaning on the wisdom of others, recognizing our interdependence, and creating service opportunities, we develop our maturity and character, demonstrating our faith in God's provision and care for us. May we all learn to ask for help when needed, knowing that doing so is a courageous act of Strength, Wisdom, and Humility.
