The 411 on Sin.

"Beloved, understand this: you're accountable before God for every aspect of your life — thoughts, words, or actions. It doesn't matter if you feel that you're 'born this way' or if you're struggling with addiction; these aren't exceptions in the sight of God (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14; Ezekiel 18:20; Matthew 12:35-37; Romans 2:1-11; 1 Corinthians 3:8; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Colossians 3:23-25; 1 Peter 1:17; Revelation 22:12). Make no mistake; when something has control over you, it enslaves you (Romans 6:16-18; 2 Peter 2:19b)."

Scripture Breakdown and Opinion:

  1. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 - This passage reinforces the idea that God will bring every deed into judgment, whether good or evil. Opinion: This is a crucial baseline, underscoring the importance of personal responsibility.

  2. Ezekiel 18:2-20, esp. verse 20 - The focus here is on individual responsibility, clearing the idea that one bears the guilt of their parents. Opinion: This frees us from generational curses and predispositions, emphasizing that our choices are our own.

  3. Matthew 12:35-37 - Jesus speaks about how the mouth speaks what fills the heart and how we'll be judged by our words. Opinion: Words are often overlooked but are potent indicators of our Spiritual condition.

  4. Romans 2:1-11 - Paul emphasizes God's righteous judgment, applying to Jews and Gentiles. Opinion: This is a sobering reminder that no one is exempt from God’s scrutiny.

  5. 1 Corinthians 3:8 - Each will be rewarded according to their own labor. Opinion: This speaks to the principle of sowing and reaping, emphasizing personal responsibility.

  6. 2 Corinthians 5:10 - All must appear before Christ’s judgment seat. Opinion: Accountability is universal; it applies to every Believer.

  7. Colossians 3:23-25 - We are urged to work heartily for the Lord, not for men. Opinion: This shifts our focus from the worldly view of labor to a heavenly one.

  8. 1 Peter 1:17 - God judges impartially according to one’s deeds. Opinion: God’s judgment is fair and unbiased, reinforcing personal accountability.

  9. Revelation 22:12 - Jesus says He is coming soon, bringing His recompense. Opinion: The element of urgency and imminence should motivate us to live righteously.

  10. Romans 6:16-18 and 2 Peter 2:19b - These Scriptures talk about becoming enslaved to what controls you. Opinion: This speaks volumes about the dangers of addiction or bondage to sin. It's not merely a medical or societal issue but a Spiritual one.
