Message 1: Returning to Egypt – The Danger of Complacency
Scripture:
Exodus 16:2-3 – "The whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And the children of Israel said to them, 'Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt when we sat by the pots of meat and ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.'"
Numbers 14:3-4 – "Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt? So they said to one another, 'Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.'"
Revelation 2:4-5 – "Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember, therefore, from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent."
Key Message: After deliverance, many desire the old comforts of bondage. The Church must not grow weary but press on.
Throughout history, God's people have been delivered by His mighty hand, only to later long for the very chains He broke. The Israelites cried out for deliverance from Egypt, and when God set them free, they quickly forgot His power and provisions, longing instead for the familiarity of slavery. They had the Promised Land ahead, but their hearts clung to the past.
The modern Church is at risk of the same deception. The Lord has awakened many through prayer, trials, and national crises. But when relief comes, will we return to old ways? Will we abandon fervent prayer? Will we become comfortable once more and drift back into complacency?
The Danger of Looking Back
Forgetting the Cost of Bondage – The Israelites romanticized Egypt, forgetting it was a place of slavery. Many today romanticize the world's ways, forgetting that sin leads to death (Romans 6:23).
Desiring Comfort Over Calling – The wilderness was rugged, but it was necessary to reach the Promised Land. Many abandon their faithfulness when trials come, preferring an easy life over a holy one (Luke 9:62).
Leaving Their First Love—Just as Jesus warned the Ephesian Church, many today have lost the passion and urgency they once had. Revival must not be temporary; we must occupy ourselves until He comes.
Application:
Maintain Fervency in Prayer – Do not stop seeking God because a battle is won. The war is not over.
Rebuke Evil and Stand Firm—Continue resisting deception, calling out sin, and holding the line of truth.
Spread the Gospel Relentlessly – The lost are still perishing. Do not retreat. Be bolder than ever.
Call to Action: Believers, let us not turn back to Egypt. Let us not grow weary but press on toward the high calling of Christ. The battle is not won until He returns. Keep your lamps burning bright, your prayers unceasing, and your faith unshakable.
God be the glory, and may we be found faithful when He comes!
