Awakening the Church: Standing Firm in a Shifting World.

Introduction:

Good morning, brothers and sisters. As we look around the world today, it's clear we live in unprecedented times. The challenges we face are not merely political or social but deeply spiritual. The Church must awaken from spiritual slumber and stand firm in our faith. Today, I want to encourage us to understand the urgency of the hour and respond to God's call with courage and conviction.

**Scripture Reading:**

- **Ephesians 5:14 (NKJV):** *"Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light."*

- **Romans 13:11-12 (NIV):** *"And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber..."*

**1. The Call to Wake Up**

God's Word calls us to wake up from spiritual complacency. Too often, we fall into routines, forgetting the urgency of the Gospel message.

-illustration:** Think about an alarm clock—it jolts us awake to start the day. The Holy Spirit is like our divine alarm, shaking us out of slumber so we don't miss God's purpose.

- **Scripture:** *Revelation 3:2 (NIV):* “Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die..."

** Application: ** Examine your heart. Are there areas where you have grown indifferent or distracted? The time is now to rekindle your passion for Christ.

**Opinion:** Many Christians today are unaware of the spiritual warfare around us. The enemy seeks to distract us from worldly concerns, but God calls us to rise above and focus on eternal matters.

**2. Recognizing the Spiritual Battle**

The challenges we face today—the rise of secularism, moral relativism, and the erosion of biblical values—are not mere coincidences. They are evidence of a spiritual battle.

- **Scripture:** *Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV):* "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers..."

- **Current Events:** We see governments legalizing sin, schools removing God, and society redefining morality. These are not just social issues; they are spiritual attacks.

- **Resource:** *The Screwtape Letters* by C.S. Lewis shows how subtle the enemy's tactics can be, distracting us with small compromises until we've drifted far from God.

**Illustration:** Imagine a ship at sea. If the captain neglects the compass, the ship will drift off course. In the same way, if we neglect God's Word, we risk being swept away by the tides of this world.

**3. Standing Firm Without Compromise**

Christians are called to stand firm in our faith, even when the world pressures us to conform.

- **Illustration:** Think of Daniel in Babylon. He refused to defile himself with the king's food, choosing to honor God above all else (Daniel 1:8). His unwavering faith set him apart.

- **Scripture:** *1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV):* “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”

- **Application:** Standing firm doesn't mean being abrasive or arrogant. It means holding to God's truth with humility and grace.

**My concern about socialism's dangers and the need for the Church to balance grace with no compromise is essential. This message is timely, as many Christians are misled by political and cultural rhetoric.

**4. The Urgency of Salvation**

Time is short, and the need for Salvation is urgent. We must share the Gospel with the lost.

- **Scripture:** *2 Corinthians 6:2 (NIV):* "I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation."

- **Illustration:** As Noah warned of the coming flood, we must warn others of the impending judgment while the door of grace is still open.

**Opinion:** The window for repentance is closing. The world's events are aligning with biblical prophecy. Now is the time to act.

**5. Equipping the Next Generation**

Our children and grandchildren are the future of the Church, and we have a responsibility to teach them God's ways.

- **Scripture:** *Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV):* "Train up a child in the way he should go..."

- **Illustration:** Think of a gardener planting seeds. The seeds need watering, sunlight, and care to grow. In the same way, we must nurture the next generation with the truth of God's Word.

**This message is vitally influenced by my emphasis on parents' responsibility to raise their children in a manner that pleases the Lord.

**Resource:** Shepherding a Child's Heart* by Tedd Tripp provides practical guidance for raising children using biblical principles.

**Conclusion**

We are at a pivotal moment in history. The choices we make today will echo into eternity. God is calling us to wake up, recognize the spiritual battle, stand firm, and act with urgency. Let us be the light in this dark world, equipping our children and boldly proclaiming the Gospel.

**Call to Action:**

- **Self-Examination:** Reflect on areas where we have grown complacent.

- **Engagement:** Actively share the Gospel and stand for truth.

- **Prayer:** Seek God's guidance and strength.

**Closing Scripture:**

- *Philippians 2:15 (NIV):* "So that you may become blameless and pure, 'children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.' Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky."

**Closing Prayer:**

Heavenly Father, awaken our hearts and minds to Your truth. Equip us to stand firm against the tides of this world. Fill us with Your Spirit so that we may boldly proclaim Your Word and live lives that honor You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
